Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Practical Notes Lab is a free tools website. No account is required and no registration is offered. This policy explains what information is and is not collected when you use the site.

Tools run in your browser — your files never leave your device

Every calculator and consulting tool on this site runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The numbers you type, the lab reports or spreadsheets you drop in, the system background you enter, and the report text you paste are processed on your own device. They are not uploaded to our servers, stored in any database, or shared with anyone. There is no server-side copy for anyone — including us, or an attacker — to steal.

A few tools remember your preferences in your own browser only (using browser local storage): for example a custom standard you built for comparison, or your last analysis so you can reopen it. This data stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

What you choose to send us

Only the things you explicitly submit ever leave your browser:

  • Pro waitlist / Pro trial unlock / contact forms — the email address (and message, for contact; optional feedback, for trial users) you type in. Used only to reply, to notify you when Pro launches, or to improve the tools.
  • “Share this template” (Lab Datasheet Builder) — only the lab’s column-mapping layout, so the built-in library can grow. Your report data is never included.

These are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). We do not sell, rent, or share this information with third parties.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not ask for your name, email, or any personal details to use the tools.
  • We do not store your calculation inputs, uploaded files, or results.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical data needed to operate the site, such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. These logs are used for security and site operation only.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (via Google Site Kit) and Google Search Console to understand which pages and tools are useful and improve the site. Analytics measures page visits only — it does not see or record anything you type into a tool, upload, or paste. You can opt out with any standard analytics blocker or your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets its own cookies to distinguish visits. The site itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Standard, strictly necessary cookies used by the hosting platform for security and load balancing may apply.

A note on shared computers

Because a few tools save your work in the browser (see above), avoid using them on a shared or public computer for sensitive projects — or clear the browser’s site data when you are done. The security of your own device is your responsibility.
